Westport Friends Meeting State of Society 2018

Dear Friends,

Westport Friends Meeting’s Ministry and Counsel Committee has begun working on producing a State of Society report for our Meeting community. Two Sunday’s ago we devoted the bulk of the worship hour to considering several queries for reflection in a worship sharing format. We wish to offer a chance for Friends who may not have been with us that day to also reflect upon and perhaps respond to the queries as stated below:

  • What do we recognize as the strengths or gifts of our Westport faith community?
  • Where do we see opportunities to strengthen and deepen our faith community?
  • Do we nurture our children in Quaker worship and know them as fellow worshippers?
  • Do we seek the leadings of the Light in meeting for business as we do in worship?

Historically,  State of Society Reports are a long-standing Quaker custom. They are most frequently produced as annual reports written by a monthly meeting, and in our case then sent along to Sandwich Quarterly Meeting, who next sends them on to the wider body of Friends at New England Yearly Meeting. The State of Society Report reflects on the condition of the monthly meeting — its strengths, challenges, spiritual health, etc, oftentimes responding to posed queries, like those above.

Please take some time to ponder the queries above and consider forwarding your written responses at your earliest convenience to Buddy Baker-Smith at  buddy.bakersmith@gmail.com. Ministry and Counsel will begin to tabulate responses at our next meeting on April 22, 2018.

Thank you, Friends.
